Kurt Weill
Kurt Weill (1900–1950) was a German-American composer known for blending classical music with jazz and popular styles. He gained fame through his collaborations with Bertolt Brecht, including The Threepenny Opera and the iconic song “Mack the Knife.”
After fleeing Nazi Germany, Weill settled in the United States and reinvented his style for Broadway, creating works such as Lady in the Dark and Street Scene. His music is celebrated for its theatrical power, rich harmonies, and unique fusion of genres, bridging classical and popular traditions.
